Events in Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik is the cultural, artistic and historical symbol of Croatia. There are many events that take place in Dubrovnik through the year and we would like to mention the most important of them.

In the winter time there is a new program, « Winter in Dubrovnik». December is the most attractive winter months. From St Nicholas day till Christmas and New Year's Eve numerous concerts are held in the Old Town and also many exhibitions are organised. A great favourite of visitors are the magical festivites through the morning on Christmas Eve and on New Year's Eve, when traditional songs are sung to wish a happy Christmas and New Year and also lot of joy, peace and prosperity.In the evening, on New Year's Eve, the people of Dubrovnik with its guests celebrate New Year on Stradun, the main street of the city, the most attractive stage area.

Another important tradition during the winter time is Carnival (in January and February). During the time of the Carnival, many performances, concerts, dances and carnival processions are held in the Old Town.

Than we have in February the feast of St.Blasius. St.Blasius is the Patron saint and this feast is celebrated on February 3 each year since 972.(more than thousend years) and this is most popular religious feast in Dubrovnik. This feast is known far and wide for participation of people from neighbouring villages in their picturesque costumes, for its majestic procession in which the relics of the Saint are carried and for popular events.

So Dubrovnik is always interesting, in the winter months festivites and carnival are held in the city; and in the summer months Dubrovnik becomes an outdoor natural stage because of its Dubrovnik Summer Festival. This great theatre and music festival has taken place without interruption since 1950. The programme takes place between July 10 and August 25 on 33 open-air stages in the city and also inside numerous churches, monasteries and palaces. The festival is known all over the world as a festival which attracts famous names of the theatre and music. During this festival you can enjoy in plays, operas, ballets, symphony and chamber concerts, recitals and folklore.

In Dubrovnik we suggest you to visit many exhibitions, museums, treasuries and galleries; because the whole of Dubrovnik is a town-museum.

Dubrovnik by night is full of magic and romance and we suggest you also to go dancing on one of the many hotel terraces or perhaps to take a night cruise.
